Day #1

So today was the day! Day one of my new adventure.  I picked Core de Force because I really love MMA inspired workouts.  I concentrate so hard on the combinations of moves during each round that before I know it the workout is over and I feel great.  My big concern right now is that I’ve had a back issue for the last few weeks.  I didn’t do anything specific that threw it out of whack, it just started to hurt and then keep getting worse and worse everyday.  I took the last couple of weeks off of working out except walking the dogs and doing Yoga specific to the lower back, hamstrings and hips.  The Yoga was so incredibly helpful, I highly recommend the video  by David Procyshyn if you are experiencing these kind of problems.  I didn’t even realize how tight my muscles were until I started doing the video. Yoga for Hips, Hamstrings and Lower Back

Anyway back to today.  Today’s workout was MMA Speed, it’s about 30 minutes and is 6 rounds of punching and kicking combinations with cardio spikes in between.  I tried not to throw punches or kicks to hard yet to make sure my back would stay well enough to keep up with the workout schedule of Core de Force.  The whole point of this for me is to get my core in good enough shape that my back stops hurting. Awesome workout, this could definitely be one of my favorites.

I always start my day with one of two breakfasts, either Hash with poached eggs or frittata.  Hash this morning consisted of 1/2 cup of yams, onion, poblano peppers celery and carrots and 2 poached eggs.  I have this awesome egg poacher called the Big Boss Egg Genie that I can plug in at work and in less then 5 minutes I have 2 beautifully poached eggs.  Throw a cup of some mixed berries with it and I have delicious breakfast using 1 serving of vegetables, 1 carb, 1 protein and 1 fruit from the 21-day fix diet. Perfect! Lunch is always the same for me (I’m boring like that) salad with spinach, kale mix, cucumbers, tomatoes, mushrooms, protein (today was pork), 1/4 of an avocado and home made dressing. Even on the weekends I eat salad for lunch, I just usually put different vegetables to try and mix it up. Lunch was 1 protein, 1 healthy fat, 1 seed/dressing, and probably 3 vegetables on the 21-day fix plan.  Even though the servings of vegetables the diet says I should have in a day is three I probably do more like six.  I’m not concerned about eating more vegetables my system requires that kind of fiber and it’s pretty hard to eat too many vegetables. Dinner was  Cod with a Tomato Basil Sauce, roasted potatoes and broccoli. Very easy dinner to make (especially when hubby acts as my sous-chef) and super tasty!

The big change for me today was that I tried Shakeology for the first time.  I used it as my snack at 3:00 pm so I would have enough energy to come home and work out. It was very filling and pretty good.  I’ve actually had better chocolate flavored protein shakes but it might have been the way I made it.  I didn’t have time for my afternoon cup of coffee so I decided to use a cold cup of coffee as the liquid for the shake along with about 8 oz. of ice.  It actually might have been the coffee that made it not so tasty.  Tomorrow I think I will try adding water and banana instead.  I look forward to seeing if Shakelogy provides all the amazing benefits Beachboy claims, I’ll come back to that topic in the future.

Today was a success! Felt great, energized and happy.  In fact hubby and I even prepared tomorrow’s dinner, Poblano Stuffed Peppers, because we have a tax appointment at 6:00pm and I wanted to make sure I have time to workout  before we go.  The diet went great today and I stayed within the guidelines with the exception of a serving of fruit that I never got around to eating. Yeah me!
